PHD SHOLARSHIPS IN HYDROLOGY AND HYDRAULICS
PhD scholarships in Hydrology and Hydraulics are available for outstanding students to join the
HEFRAIL Erosion Control Project Team at the Centre for Railway Engineering, CQUniversity
Australia. HEFRAIL Project is undertaking research into cost-effective strategies for the
establishment of grasses on railway batters within a short time frame to control erosion. Use of a
drip irrigation system to supplement natural rainfall is an integral part of the strategies being looked
into. Extensive rainfall-runoff-erosion data have been collected over the last 11 years. The areas of
research include
1) Hydraulics of driplines irrigation systems;
2) Stochastic rainfall modelling;
3) Runoff and erosion modelling.
Links to these projects can be found at the above websites. Scholarships are $30,000 per year tax
free. Overseas students are encouraged to apply, however, please note that the scholarships do not
cover student tuition fees.
Applicants should hold a BSc (Hons: 1 or 2A) or Masters Degree in Civil or Agricultural
Engineering, Hydrology, Physical Geography, Mathematics, or related discipline. Good research,
mathematical programming and communication skills are essential. There is currently no closing
date for this scholarship.
To apply, please send a copy of your CV and academic record with a covering letter of application
to Assoc. Prof. Yeboah Gyasi-Agyei (tel: 074930 9977; email y.gyasi-agyei@cqu.edu.au).
Applicants should request two academic referees to send confidential reports at the time of
application.
Yours sincerely,
Yeboah Gyasi-Agyei
